A: This example begins with
the dataset, station, and variable already selected. For more information about these steps,
please refer to the Data Library Tutorial (finding datasets
, selecting stations
and variables.
Let's
use NOAA/NCDC/GSPS/MONTHLY/STATION data for an example. Here
is the mean temperature data for New York. Seasonally averaged data
can be found by following these steps:
Step 1. Reduce the data to include only full years. For example, let's reduce the data to Jan 1950 - Dec 1969. To do this, click on the "Data Selection" link in the Function Bar. Check Step
Step 2. Enter "Jan 1950 to Dec 1969" in the range box in the Setting Ranges table and click on the Restrict Ranges button. These new dates should now appear in the gray box. Click the "Stop Selecting" button. Check Step
Step 3. Select the Expert Mode link in the Function Bar.
Step 4. Enter the following line in the text box at the
top of the page underneath the last line of text.
T 3. boxAverage
Click "OK". Check Page
You have now created a 3-month average beginning with the first 3-month period, i.e., Jan-Mar 1950. If we had wanted our winter season to be Dec-Feb instead of Jan-Mar, then we would have entered "Dec 1949 to Nov 1969" in Step 2.
You can now either view the seasonal
data by clicking on one of the Views links underneath the text box, view
the seasonal data in tabular format by clicking on the "Tables" link, or
download the data in a variety of formats by clicking on the "Data Files"
link.
