VACANCY FOR A NON-FICTION /SCIENCE WRITER

The Foundation for Environment, Climate and Technology (FECT) is seeking recently qualified applicants for a writer in either or both Non-Fiction and Science topics for communicating to the wider society, technical and academic audiences. The work shall include social science, historical and related work a Non-Fiction writer. The Science writer shall work on publishing projects related to Climate, Environment, Water Resources, Infectious Diseases, Disaster Risk Management and Agriculture.
Essential competencies:
- Excellent English language writing skills
- Publishing quality editorial standards in English
- Established language styles for general and for science writing
- Ability to write compelling, logical, clear and concise content
- Factual accuracy and attention to detail
- Sound knowledge of IT and word-processing
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented and well organized
- Ability to work independently and efficiently to meet deadlines
- Work well with a multi-disciplinary team
Optional Competencies:
- Bibliographic software
- Copy-editing and layout skills
- Competence in other languages
- The desire to learn, and the ability to learn quickly
Bonus skills:
- Skills in environment, science or resources management related topics
- Experience with publishing software
- Social Media skills
- Competence in Graphics and visual communication
These are full time assignments and can commence immediately. Appointments are under contract with extension based on performance. Work will be in our offices in Akurana or Digana in Kandy.
