TRAINEE SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR / PROGRAMMER

A recently qualified person who possesses a Diploma or degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or equivalent experience is sought to support a non-profit scientific, engineering and socio-economic research enterprise. The ideal person should be a versatile, reliable and conscientious individual skilled in web development, and system administration.

Essential Skills:

  • Scientific programming languages and ability to pick up new skills as needed
  • Advanced Competence in MS-office packages, and Graphics packages
  • Knowledge and expertise in PHP & MySQL
  • Experience in developing contents for websites (HTML, CSS), blogs, and social media outlets
  • Good writing skills in English
  • Ability to learn quickly

Added advantages:

  • Wordpress content management system (should understand the Workflow, site map, usability and aesthetics) and user experience orientation
  • Knowledge in Javascript and Ajax like frameworks
  • Skilled in visual communications / packages such as Adobe CS5 suite, Indesign, or similar
  • Aesthetic sensibilities in web development
  • Competency in image processing, GIS, desktop publishing and other scientific software
  • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop & Macromedia Dreamweaver will be an added advantage
  • Skills in audio & video editing

The best fit is a person with good interpersonal skills who is adaptable and flexible, and can handle tasks in multiple areas. The candidate shall work in a multidisciplinary team environment and must be willing to learn new subjects. Ability to work independently and conscientiously in a timely manner with minimal supervision is necessary.

The assignment is to commence immediately. The job is to be full time on contract basis, and extendable. Work will be at our offices in Digana Village and Akurana.
