About Us

In the year 2000, we began work as a small project funded by the Mahaweli Authority and the International Research Institute for Climate Prediction (hosted at Columbia University and the University of California-San Diego). We established the Foundation for Environment, Climate and Technology under a service oriented non-profit charter after realizing the need to foster research in environmental and climatic science and technology, as well as its societal and environmental applications.

FECT builds on the efforts of Sri Lankan and international officers. Our efforts are focused on creating usable scientific and technology information that can be applied by users across a wide variety of sectors.

We collaborate with local partners as well as the Federation for Environment, Climate, and Technology in the Maldives, Comoros, and Zanzibar. We've worked on about 30 projects with government agencies, research institutes, universities, civil society organizations, local governments, and the private sector..

Vision

To generate and use research for the benefit of society and environment particularly the vulnerable.

Mission

To sustain a think tank and centre of excellence in climate, environment and information technologies with quality research to address societal concerns and ecological protection.

Our Past Contributions:-

Since 1997, we've conducted climate and environmental research, implemented climate adaptation initiatives, built research infrastructure, and trained a large number of people. We established the Foundation for Environment, Climate, and Technology to keep these advancements ongoing. FECT contributes to sustainable development through climate, hydrology, adaptability, information technology, social sciences, and engineering. Our officers have engaged in projects in Sri Lanka for over 15 years that made significant contributions in the demonstration of

  • Science application projects
  • Science and Technology Data base development
  • Climate and Environmental diagnostic work
  • Development of local technological capacity

Our Goal is to contribute towards:-

  • Disaster Risk Identification for Sri Lanka
  • Disaster Information Dissemination
  • Climate and Rural Energy
  • Hydro meteorological Monitoring
  • Climate Atlas
  • Regional Climate Modeling
  • Dynamic Disaster Hazard Identification
  • Early Warning Systems for Natural Hazards
  • Early Warning System for Dengue Risk
